One-Liner Wednesday: Chiari

When I saw the specialized neurosurgeon last week, after posting here for positive vibes, they asked what my three most troublesome symptoms are and I answered, “Brain fog, fatigue, and balance problems;” they told me that surgery for Chiari malformation should help all three, so I will have that, probably in late October.

    1. Yes! After two and a half years, there’s finally hope that my most troublesome symptoms will improve. The recovery timeline will be 3-6 months, though, because my brain has been coping with cerebrospinal fluid problems all this time and will need time to heal and re-adjust.

    1. It is! It seems a bit odd to say, “Yay! Brain surgery!” but when the alternative is continuing symptoms because my cerebrospinal fluid is not able to circulate properly, I’m ready to go with this very experienced and expert neurosurgeon.

    1. One of the confusing things about my diagnostic journey is the number of times that health professionals looked at my imaging and missed what was obvious to someone who understood what to look for. It makes me appreciate the specialists all the more, although I wish there was more training for the rest so that diagnosis and treatment happens in a more timely way.
