When B retired, we had planned to travel more.
More trips to London to see the UK branch of the family.
More mid-week getaways to the Finger Lakes or New England, avoiding the busier weekends and high seasons, now that B didn’t have to work Monday through Friday. Visits to friends and relatives.
We have been doing more travelling, but not in the way we had anticipated.
Instead, we have been doing a lot of medical travelling. A couple of trips to NYC to see the interventional radiologist and do some specialized testing. A trip to Providence, RI at the end of last month to meet with a specialized neurosurgeon. We will return there this fall for surgery. I might need to find an out-of-town nephrologist…
We are hoping that, by next spring, I may be recovered enough to travel for fun again.
It will give me something to dream about as I’m recovering…

Yes medical travelling is not as fun but like you say, hopefully you will be able to travel for fun in the spring

One of the side benefits of my medical travel has been the opportunity to see family and friends, in NYC and in Rhode Island. Silver linings…

i’m hopeful that you will be able to travel more places than to medical appointments in the new year

Thanks, Beth! Bonus is that daughter T is improving health-wise, too, so we will probably concentrate on some long-deferred family visits first.

Best wishes that you get to travel by choice, not by necessity, soon.

I’m glad you get to visit family while traveling for medical procedures. I’m adding my hopes and prayers you get to travel again just for fun.

Thanks so much, JoAnna! I know it won’t be until sometime next year but I’ve started to think about places to go.

Anticipating and planning trips is fun.

LOL – I usually let other family members do the planning bit, which I find stressful.

It’s good that we all like different things. I find packing a bit stressful.

Hope you get some help with packing, then!

Reading about your trip to Providence, RI and the upcoming surgery this fall gives me hope that you’re staying active even while traveling for medical care. When you’re on a long flight or in a waiting room, a few gentle seated hip circles can keep the hips from stiffening and help maintain circulation. It’s a small movement that can make a big difference in recovery and comfort. Wishing you a smooth surgery and a spring that feels like a fresh start.

Thank you, Dan. I’m lucky that I haven’t had to fly to get treatment. Some of the car trips are several hours long but it’s easy to stop and walk a bit to keep from stiffening up. I also sometimes make strategic use of compression garments of various types depending on which body parts need support. Work in progress…
