back home

After my first post-operative visit on Friday morning, spouse B was able to drive me home. It’s about a five hour drive but was made longer by needed stops and some rainy weather. The drive was pretty uncomfortable for me and we had held open the possibility of doing it over two days rather than one, but, by the time we could have checked into a hotel, we were already close enough to home that it didn’t make sense to stop.

It was good to be home and to see daughter T, who had been holding down the fort. Although our Airbnb in Providence had been very comfortable, it was nice to be back in our own bed and our house where we use switches and pull down the shades by hand. (Our Airbnb had almost everything tied into Google Home, which worked as intended some times but not others.)

I had thought I’d be able to catch up on some reading and writing this weekend, but, instead, I keep needing to lie down and nap. B has helpfully reminded me that I am recovering from brain surgery, so, of course, I’m tired.

He is right. My sense of time is out of whack. Tomorrow will mark two weeks since the surgery, which, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t long at all.

I know I still owe you a post about the surgery and hospital stay itself, which I will get to eventually.

After a lot more sleep…
