When Dolly Parton was asked about her ultimate goal in life, she answered:
“Just to be happy, to be as productive as I can be, make as many people happy as I can, make as much money as I can, so I can do for more people. And I just want the freedom to work, and everybody else can have the money.”
Mission accomplished, Dolly. Rest in peace. The good you have done in the world will live on for generations.

I didn’t know much of her music but I knew she was a wonderful philanthropist who helped millions of people and was very accepting of everyone.

I didn’t appreciate her style in the old days, but that style was her unique way of meeting the other goals and helping her do so much good in the world. Plus, she had some good songs. I have so much admiration and respect for Dolly Parton now.

I don’t usually listen to country music or pop music more broadly, but I appreciated Dolly’s work in the folk/ bluegrass tradition and her incredible ability to use her songs to tell a story. Even more, as you note, she used her music career to make her philanthropy possible. The good she did in her life will continue into future generations because of her generosity and savvy.
