I am taking a second while it is still Saturday to slip in an under-the-wire SoCS post before I go to bed.
I hope everyone has had a good week. It has been a strange week here in the US with the Republican convention, but I want to assure readers in other countries that the US is not the dangerous place that the speakers at the convention make it out to be. Crime is actually down.
I think we need less fear and suspicion and more love and empathy.
That goes for all nations.

I’ve been telling myself some version of that for years. It usually involves getting through some major project/issue/development – the “if” – so that “then” things will calm down and be organized and predictable and under control.
It almost never works out that way.
I am finally wising up and getting to the point where I don’t promise anyone, even myself, some future goal.
Too much can happen that was unforeseen or that results in a totally different chain of events than anticipated.
The only constant is change and all that…
A lot of things that I might have seen as if/then are morphing into hopes, rather than promises or commitments.
It’s a way to retain some level of sanity/calm/integrity.
People who read my blog know that the past few months have been difficult for me, beginning with the unexpected death of my mother-in-law in March. I had to pull back from a lot of my usual activities, including blogging practice, and I thought I had an idea of when and how I would work my way back to what I had been used to.
Then, a string of other things unfolded and I have had to acknowledge that I really don’t have a clue when I will resume or even if it is possible.
I will just do the best that I can.
My if/thens will be confined to simple straightforward statements, such as “If I schedule this post now, then it will appear on Saturday.”

Weeks ago, I wrote about what I, as a Bernie supporter, want moving forward.
In today’s Washington Post, Sanders writes about what he – and more importantly – his supporters want. He actually mentions the twelve million people who voted for him in primaries, but he has many more supporters than that. Some, like me, are independents who live in closed primary states. Others are people who caucused for Bernie in their states, but who are not tallied as votes for him due to the state caucus rules.
The list of issues that Senator Sanders highlights is not exhaustive, but it is expansive, emphasizing yet again that Sanders’ campaign was never one-issue, as his critics had characterized it.
I hope that the Democrats will seek to address these issues and earn the enthusiastic support of Bernie’s supporters of all political affiliations.
I take the recent energy and actions by the Congressional Democrats as a positive sign that the party is finally putting the needs of the people above the special interests.
Bernie has been calling for a revolution, not a violent one but a political one. Let’s use the momentum of the current moment to make it happen.
It’s what being a democratic republic is all about.

Since Grandma died and I have not been posting much, I hadn’t even looked at my stats at all – until today.
On May 2nd, I set a new record for views – 153!
I would tell you what the old record was if I could figure it out…
I published a post that day about attending a very emotional service, which was then shared by one of the participants. I’m sure this accounts for the new record views.
As always, I am grateful to all those who visit here at Top of JC’s Mind. It’s fun to have a new record as a prompt to say so.
