    1. What’s extra fun is not knowing when it will be! The College President decides it and they ring the college bells first thing in the morning to alert everyone that it is a beautiful day off from classes. At breakfast, there are fixings for students to pack a picnic lunch, so the kitchen staff doesn’t have to work at lunchtime, too. The president also sends out an early morning email to alums so we still get to join in spirit wherever we are.

        1. Yeah, it was a lot of fun and there were many happy memories, which is why it has become a tradition for alums to be told, too. Picnicking was great, even if you stayed on campus because there is a pond in the middle of campus and Smith itself is an arboretum designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, designer of Central Park in NYC, so lots of wonderful places to eat under the trees. And, yeah, Smithies geek out about a lot of things about the college, its history, and traditions. 😉
