Right? Unfortunately I’m seeing far too many people who think it’s a character flaw or failure to have too little. It is the most horrifying part of people who can’t experience empathy until they’ve been in the situation themselves.

It does seem that many people have been brainwashed into seeing everything in personal terms rather than community and systems terms. It’s ridiculous that caregiving is so devalued when it is some of the most important work that is done, whether paid or unpaid. Somehow, people, especially the wealthy, tend to think they made their own way, forgetting that our society makes it possible for them to have all the goods and services they use. That they can’t see the dignity and worth of each person and the responsibility we all have to care for one another is a form of moral blindness.

I really appreciate how meaningful FDR is today. President Biden was following in the FDR tradition, while the current president is decidedly not.
