One-Liner Wednesday: cataract surgery

I had my first cataract surgery yesterday and it’s very weird to adjust to that while not being able to wear glasses to help the other eye see clearly.

    1. Thanks, Sadje. With the particular lenses I’m having implanted, I may be able to only use glasses for very fine print/close work. After decades of wearing a strong prescription, that will be amazing if it works out.

  1. Oh, that sounds good. My mom had that done when we first moved to the Cape. One eye one month, one eye the other month. She only needs glasses for reading now, a mild prescription. I wish you quick healing!

    1. Thanks, Devon. I’m glad your mom had such a good experience. I’m already 20/25 in the eye that was done and the mid-range and near distances will get better over these next few days/weeks. I’m lucky that there will only be a week between the two surgeries.

  2. I’d have a hard time not wearing my glasses, but everyone says it’s a big improvement in the long run. I have a few more years to go. Thanks for the info. There’s always music!

    1. When the time comes, you can make a decision about whether or not you still want to wear glasses. The Medicare standard is still monofocal implanted lens, which, for most people, would mean still wearing glasses for mid and close distance. I opted for advanced lenses that can correct for all distances and astigmatism, which, I hope, will give me better vision than I was able to get with glasses. I’m especially looking forward to being able to work at the computer without having to put my head at an odd angle to look through my mid-distance portion of my progressive lenses.
